The Colour Foundry spent an amazing week as artists in residence at The Sidney Nolan Trust.

Sidney Nolan was one of the twentieth century's most ground-breaking artists - he came to live and work on the Herefordshire border for the last ten years of his life. Fearless in adopting new materials and techniques, in the mid-1980s Nolan began working with the Quantel Paintbox, a custom graphics system.

The Paintbox allowed artists, for the first time, to digitally edit and manipulate images. As part of the 1986 BBC Two television series Painting with Light, Nolan along with artists including David Hockney and Richard Hamilton made new experimental artwork, the likes of which had never been seen before.

Pupils from four local primary schools, in collaboration with The Colour Foundry, created new digital artworks in response to Nolan’s computer graphics and the hundreds of polaroid photographs that Nolan made in his lifetime. Work created during the project was presented through a series of roving projections using Rodd Court (Nolans home) and surroundings as a canvas.
